Oncology Massage Bio:
I began my massage training in 2009 when I enrolled in the Cortiva Institute Seattle – COMTA accredited 1000 hour massage therapy program. During my introductory training I was introduced to Oncology Massage in my Special Populations class.
Upon graduating in 2010, and establishing my private practice in 2012 cancer patients came into my care who were in active treatment and I recognized my need for further training. In 2015 I enrolled in the 24 hour training course “Massage for People Living with Cancer” led by Meg Robsahm, M.Ed., LMP, BCTMB., confirming what I knew and adding to areas I was uninformed. From 2013 to 2015 I taught the Special Populations class at Cortiva Institute, Federal Way.
My life training in oncology care began in 2003 when my three year old daughter was diagnosed with A.L.L. Leukemia. This involved managing her daily chemotherapy treatments spanning two and half years, in-patient and out-patient. Today she is a long term survivor of leukemia which comes with additional health challenges and follow up care. This life experience offers me a unique perspective helping me to understand what is involved in finding a “normal” in the realm of cancer, for the patient and the care givers.
Additionally, I now offer Oncology Massage education courses to entry level massage students to open the door to massage considerations for those living with cancer and seeking massage therapy at the Discovery Point School of Massage in Seattle, and the CE Course: Massage for the Medically Complex.
